Step into a world where gods walk among mortals, fate cannot be escaped, and every choice echoes through eternity. This evening of traditional storytelling brings the myths of ancient Greece vividly to life—tales of love and vengeance, hubris and heroism, beauty and betrayal. Hear of powerful deities and flawed heroes, of mortals who dared to challenge the will of the gods. These are stories filled with passion, danger, and dark humour—where triumph is never simple, and the cost of glory is often high. Told in the living oral tradition, each story unfolds afresh in the moment—rich, immersive, and unforgettable. Maria Credali is a professional storyteller, an artist and workshop facilitator who loves to connect with her audiences. Maria now lives in the Midlands in England and works to bring the magic of storytelling and art to all. With her warm, intimate style, Maria brings ancient tales to life with charm, wit, and emotional depth. Her performances are described as: “Joyous, beautiful, inspiring and poetic.” “Fabulously entertaining – a vivacious character who lights up the room.” Doors open 7pm, please be seated by 7.20pm. Soft drinks, as well as a range of snacks, will be available to purchase at the venue during the show. Parking is available but limited at the centre. Another nearby car park is Bath Road car park. Performances are aimed at adults (although many tales will be joyful, parts of some tales may be dark or violent in places, as many traditional tales originally were, but we don't make promise of this either). Last Orders, A Storytelling show by Mike Payton in a 16th Century pub near Swindon The Old Stables, behind The White Hart, Cricklade 7.30pm-10pm Friday 30th January 2025 (Ages 14+) Doors open 7pm (please be seated by 7.20pm) Three strangers gather in the corner of an inn, leaving the darkness of the road. As the windows rattle and the optics glow, their memories grow hazy but they cling to the stories that have nourished them on their journeys. But why are they there? And who is calling for them from the upstairs bar, ever more insistently? Inspired by The Canterbury Tales, the Cohen Brothers and quite a few lost nights in the pub, Mike Payton reflects on the stories that make us and keep us tethered to the world. One more for the road… Mike Payton has been telling tall tales all his life, and decided to turn this into a career in 2008. He was Lancastrian born, but is now based in Nottingham, drawing his tales from Britain’s rich heritage and also from the four corners of the earth. His delivery is warm and engaging, and he has a penchant for the strange and unexplainable.
